The Native Village of Georgetown, in partnership with the Native Village of Napaimute and Kuskokwim Corporation, will receive $200,902 under a Project Grant from the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation's Cooperative Watershed Management Program to establish the Middle and Upper Kuskokwim Watershed Council. The Council will engage diverse stakeholders across several watersheds surrounding the Kuskokwim River in Alaska to assess restoration needs and develop collaborative solutions. The Kuskokwim River watershed supports subsistence activities, transportation, and culturally significant fisheries for communities in the sparsely populated region. Funding will support outreach to stakeholders including local tribes and villages, resource users, businesses, land managers and government agencies. The grant aims to foster watershed management consistent with the Cooperative Watershed Management Program's goal of encouraging grassroots, collaborative approaches to water issues. Performance is expected to be complete by September 30, 2025.
