THE COUNTY OF MAUI DEPARTMENT OF WATER SUPPLY (DWS) RELIES ON BOTH GROUNDWATER AND SURFACE WATER FOR ITS SUPPLY SOURCE. THE WATER RESOURCES IN MANY LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE DWS SERVICE AREA ARE DESIGNATED AS WATER MANAGEMENT AREAS (WMA) UNDER THE STATE WATER CODE (HAWAII REVISED STATUTES CHAPTER 174-C) DUE TO THEIR THREATENED CONDITION, REQUIRING ADDITIONAL PROTECTION. SEE MAP OF PAGE 5. WATER CONSERVATION PLANS ARE REQUIRED TO DETAIL ACTIONS TO PROTECT WMA WATER RESOURCES.UNDER THIS AGREEMENT THE RECIPIENT WILL COMPLETE THE TASKS AND MILESTONES LISTED AS DESCRIBED BELOW. DWS WILL WORK WITH A SELECTED CONSULTANT TO DEVELOP THE WATER CONSERVATION PLANS. UPON ENTERING INTO A CONSULTANT CONTRACT, THE DWS PLANNER SHALL SERVE AS THE LEAD STAFF PERSON AND WILL WORK DIRECTLY WITH THE CONSULTANT, THE MAUI COUNTY BOARD OF WATER SUPPLY, AND KEY DWS STAFF TO COMPLETE THE WATER CONSERVATION PLANS. DWS STAFF WILL BE PRIMARILY RESPONSIBLE FOR SOLICITING STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS.
