This $3,690,570 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), under the Nursing Research federal grant program (CFDA 93.361), aims to improve obesity treatment among adults with food insecurity. The study will conduct a randomized controlled trial with 300 participants assigned to one of three groups: Behavioral Weight Loss (BWL) alone, BWL with food vouchers, or BWL with home-delivered, medically tailored groceries. The primary objective is to assess whether the food assistance interventions (vouchers or home delivery) yield greater weight loss at 24 weeks compared to BWL alone. Secondary goals include examining differences in weight loss between the food assistance groups, as well as changes in dietary quality and health-related quality of life across all groups. An economic analysis will also evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the interventions. The award period is from September 11, 2025 to August 31, 2029, and the project will be performed by The Johns Hopkins University.
