The University of California, Davis (UC Davis) has been awarded a Project Grant of $398,972 from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) under the Research on Healthcare Costs, Quality and Outcomes (CFDA 93.226) program. The grant will support a multi-year study to identify hospital care practices and policies that improve quality and equity of care for newborns with prenatal substance exposure. The study will involve a cross-sectional survey of 131 hospitals in the BORN research network to map current practices, a retrospective evaluation of patient outcomes across 15 hospitals, and qualitative assessments to understand implementation barriers and facilitators. The findings will be used to develop and disseminate recommendations for high-quality, equitable care for substance-exposed newborns across U.S. birth hospitals. This research aims to enhance healthcare delivery, patient safety, and outcomes for this vulnerable population.
