The National Park Service (NPS) awarded $2.0 million through the Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program (CFDA 15.916) to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs on October 1, 2025. These funds support outdoor recreation infrastructure improvements and are distributed to local municipalities through subawards. The Massachusetts agency is subawarding project funds to the City of Worcester for development and enhancement projects at Lake View Playground, which will improve public access to recreational facilities and benefit the general community through playground infrastructure improvements and upgrades.
This Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State and Local Assistance Program award is funded through offshore oil and gas lease revenues rather than federal tax dollars. The project will be completed by December 31, 2028, and represents a continued federal investment in enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities at the municipal level across Massachusetts in accordance with the state's outdoor recreation priorities and comprehensive recreation plans.
