The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has been awarded a $4,083,540 project grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior's National Park Service under the Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program (CFDA 15.916) to develop a new outdoor recreation opportunity at Neilson Street Park in New Brunswick, NJ. The proposed project will utilize a 1.189-acre open area in downtown New Brunswick to construct a dog park, stone seating wall and lounge area, rock seating wall for an amphitheater, free play mounds, activity lawn, movable tables and chairs, boulder seating, and plant shade trees, flowering and ornamental trees, shrubs, and perennials. This new park will provide recreation opportunities that were previously unavailable to residents in the neighborhood and downtown New Brunswick. The project is scheduled for completion by September 30, 2027.
