About this award

The Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education awarded Indian Hills Community College a three-year, $2,014,289 Project Grant under the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) program. The grant will support the Iowa College and Career Transition Counselor Initiative to expand one-on-one counseling services for high school juniors, seniors, and first-year college students. Fifteen Iowa community colleges will each hire additional transition counselors to help students identify career pathways, enroll in postsecondary education, and ensure success. Counselors will provide advising, career exploration, assistance applying for aid and admissions, entrance exam preparation, and academic planning. In addition to serving students, counselors will collaborate with schools, families, and college staff. Sub-awards were provided to each of the fifteen community colleges to support hiring counselors and delivering these services between September 2022 through August 2025.
