The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control awarded the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, doing business as Greater Dayton Premier Management (GDPM), a $539,542.16 federal Project Grant under the Healthy Homes Weatherization Cooperation Demonstration Grants (CFDA 14.901) program on September 24, 2024.
The purpose of this federal grant award is to provide funding to GDPM, a public housing agency, to test for and mitigate radon in the public housing units they manage. Specifically, GDPM will conduct radon testing in selected units following ANSI/AARST standards, and if elevated radon levels are detected at or above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L, they will perform radon mitigation in those units. This work will provide HUD with important data on the methods and costs associated with radon testing and mitigation in public housing. The expected outcomes include reducing residents' potential radon exposure, developing a plan for future testing and mitigation, and expanding the focus of environmental interventions in homes to address non-lead poisoning concerns like radon.
