Description
Supporting and advancing nebraska's public health infrastructure - the proposed project will strategically invest the resources available from the CDC's strengthening public health infrastructure, workforce and data systems funding opportunity to stabilize and develop the state and local public health workforce, fill specific gaps in public health expertise to advance foundational capabilities, modernize the public health data system, and center health equity in the work across our state. Nebraska dhhs's division of public health will collaborate with the university of nebraska medical center college of public health and the nebraska association of local health directors to achieve this aim. Working with t/lhds in developing a statewide plan to address capacity gaps; creating transformational PH positions; and acutely focusing on systems level workforce training and development will maintain and stabilize the size and capabilities of the public health workforce in nebraska. Establishing a center for nebraska public health systems advancement; assessing gaps and barriers in accessing all health services; and supporting health equity programming and practice at all levels will improve organizational systems and processes and evidence of stronger public health foundational capabilities. Implementation of agile-focused work plans to address prioritized areas of focus will lead to a more modern and efficient data environment, increased data interoperability, and increased availability of public health data. Overall, this funding opportunity will allow for meaningful short-term and long-term effects by reinforcing nebraska's public health infrastructure by meeting workforce development and retention needs as well as strengthening foundational capabilities and data systems.
