Description

Building on the success of papa o waikolu, an education program that has educated over 30,000 students across over 60 institutions about urban stream health, we introduce a two-year immersive fellowship. Educators will be trained to conduct stream biodiversity surveys, come together to develop place-based curricula while sharing and drawing inspiration from local indigenous knowledge and practices. We have three main goals: 1) capacity building and training, to enhance fellows proficiency in stream biodiversity monitoring; 2) curriculum development and environmental action, to collaborate with fellows in planning and developing culturally inclusive mwees; 3) community building and knowledge sharing, to create a supportive network for educators. These goals strengthen community ties, broaden our watershed education programs impact, and deepen curricular connections to indigenous knowledge.
