THIS PROPOSAL DEVELOPS NALU STUDIES MAUI NUI YEAR 2 MENTORING. THIS YEAR 2 PHASE OF THE NALU MAUI NUI PROGRAM ORGANIZES AN EFFECTIVE MENTOR FRAMEWORK USING COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIPS SUPPORTING AT-RISK YOUTH ON MAUI, MOLOKAI, AND LNAI. THEY LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION, STEWARDSHIP, ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, AND TRAINING PEERS ON TECHNIQUES TO GATHER SCIENTIFIC DATA, DEVELOP SOLUTIONS, LEARN CULTURAL PROTOCOL AND INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE, AND DEVELOP ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE LEADERS. NALU WORKS WITH AT-RISK, AND HIGH-RISK ADJUDICATED YOUTH, YOUTH PROGRAMS, EDUCATIONAL AND MENTAL HEALTH GROUPS, JUDICIAL PROGRAMS, AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. NALU MAUI NUI YEAR 1 RESULTED IN 100% NALU GRADUATION AND OUR STUDENTS, SOME WHO HAD LOST HOMES AND FAMILY, WORKED IN SHELTERS TO SUPPORT THOSE IMPACTED BY THE MAUI WILDFIRES. YEAR 2 WILL BUILD A MENTORING PROGRAM CONSISTING OF AN EIGHT-WEEK NALU NATURE AND ACADEMIC SPRING, SUMMER, AND FALL SESSIONS WITH STUDENTS AS MENTORS WHO RECEIVE HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE CREDIT. NALU AND OUR PARTNERS HAVE DEVELOPED MENTORING ACTIVITIES WITH SUSTAINABLE CONNECTIONS TO MAUI NUIS SCIENCE, CULTURE, EDUCATION, AND LEADERSHIP COMMUNITY.
