About this award

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration awarded $249,675 to Cascade Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group (doing business as Cascade Fisheries) on July 1, 2026, under the Marine Sanctuary Program (CFDA 11.429) to deliver meaningful watershed educational experiences and teacher professional development for K–12 students in East Wenatchee and Rock Island, Washington through June 30, 2028.

Cascade Fisheries will expand districtwide access to classroom-integrated watershed education for 3rd and 5th grade students, targeting 38 teachers and up to 1,682 students across six elementary schools. The project delivers systemic educational experiences that promote climate resilience through classroom issue exploration, multiple field trips to investigate stream and river conditions, and an environmental action project in which students raise salmon and learn their lifecycle. Salmon eggs will be sourced from the Yakama Nation Fisheries Coho Reintroduction Program, with aquariums placed in the six participating schools. Teachers will receive sustained professional development through seasonal outdoor opportunities and support from diverse community partners.

The place of performance is Wenatchee, Washington.
