Description

The national oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA) is providing $750,000 in federal funding to the nature conservancy in east providence, rhode island for crescent park coastal bluff restoration. Specifically, the rhode island chapter of the nature conservancy (RI-TNC) will use these funds to work with the city of east providence to stabilize an eroding coastal bluff at crescent park. East providence is currently working on a restoration project that includes constructing a 810 foot-long stone revetment at the base of the bluff followed by a three-quarter acre vegetative slope up to the crest of the bluff. RI-TNC will partner with the city to complete the final design and construction of the vegetative slope portion of the project by providing funding and technical assistance. This project will also serve as a case study to evaluate the success of using vegetative slopes to contribute to shoreline stabilization and IT will inform public and private landowners of nature-based solutions.
