About this award
The Seneca Nation of Indians received a $100,000 Project Grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the Marine Sanctuary Program (CFDA 11.429). The grant will fund a 2-year project called the "Seneca Nation B-WET Project" that will engage Seneca Nation youth and local educators in cooperative, problem-based learning exercises and outdoor, field-based experiences to build meaningful watershed educational experiences (MWEEs). The project will focus on the Allegany River and Cattaraugus Creek watersheds, where participants will assess threat impacts and develop resiliency strategies to mitigate, reduce risk, and limit the impacts of flooding. The project aims to build environmental awareness for students by providing hands-on, real-world experiences in local waterways and explore related career pathways. It will also offer professional development opportunities for educators to increase their knowledge of regional environmental issues and apply this knowledge in the classroom.
Description
Seneca nation of indians: seneca nation B-wet project will engage seneca nation youth and local educators in cooperative, problem-based learning exercises, and outdoor, field-based experiences building meaningful watershed educational experiences (MWEES) for participants. The project will build environmental awareness for participating students by engaging them in hands-on, real-world experiences in local waterways and provide opportunities to explore career pathways.
