About this award

This $682,107 Project Grant awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Pacific Salmon Treaty Program (CFDA 11.438) is funding a multi-faceted effort to mitigate economic impacts from reductions in Chinook salmon harvests in Southeast Alaska. The key components of the program include:

Hatchery fish marking, tagging, and evaluation; hatchery enhancement projects; and hatchery research. Sub-awards to entities like the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, Armstrong-Keta Inc., Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association, Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association, and Douglas Island Pink And Chum, Inc. are supporting specific initiatives such as expanding salmon hatchery production, improving temperature control and infrastructure at hatcheries, upgrading feeding systems, and enhancing Chinook salmon populations through habitat restoration and broodstock management.
