About this award

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has been awarded a $24,738,000 Project Grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Pacific Salmon Treaty Program (CFDA 11.438). This five-year grant, effective September 1, 2023 through August 31, 2028, will support CDFW's continued efforts to recover federally endangered and threatened salmon and steelhead populations in California, including Central California Coast coho salmon, winter-run Chinook salmon, and Southern steelhead. The primary objective is to re-establish self-sustaining, healthy populations of these salmonid species. New initiatives are underway to increase engagement with underserved and historically marginalized communities, as well as build organizational and tribal capacity to conduct this restoration work.

This includes national oceanic and atmospheric administration's (NOAA) species in the spotlight: CCC coho and the central valley winter-run chinook salmon that contribute to the prey base for southern resident killer whales. The primary objective is to RE-establish self-sustaining healthy populations of salmonids in california.
