WORCESTER STATE UNIVERSITY (WSU) WILL RECRUIT 20 UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT PARTICIPANTS, EACH FALL SEMESTER (2022 AND 2023) WHO WILL BE STUDENTS ENTERING WORCESTER STATE UNIVERSITY FROM FIRST GENERATION, UNDERREPRESENTED AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES. THE ANNUAL COHORT OF 15 STUDENT PARTICIPANTS WILL BE IMMERSED IN AN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MODEL CONSISTING OF: (I) A 4-CREDIT COURSE IN CLIMATE SCIENCE RESEARCH; (II) MATH TUTORING AND MENTORING; (III) OUTREACH TO HIGH SCHOOLS; AND, (IV) HANDS-ON LABORATORY WITH FIELD SAMPLING ACTIVITIES. EACH STUDENT WILL BE EXPOSED TO MENTORING, MATH TUTORING, A RESIDENTIAL 6-WEEK SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM, AND DELIVER OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS TO THEIR HIGH SCHOOLS TO DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE GAINED ABOUT THE REGIONAL IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE.
