Description

Project proposed from mid-michigan environmental action council: mid-michigan watershed connections will provide an extensive professional development program for teachers in grades 6-9. Engagement of their students in watershed investigations is key to improving community understanding ways of protecting them. Teachers and students of traditionally underserved urban (i.e., lansing school district) and rural populations (ingham, eaton, and clinton counties) are the target. The teacher professional development includes field experiences such as hands-on river testing, lake limnology investigations, tours of both urban storm water and rural watershed projects, and field work related to all parts of the water cycle within the watershed. Additionally, teacher-training workshops will explore many aspects of watersheds and specific related teaching strategies. Teachers will go through a complete project wet training, along with experiencing a variety of NOAA, sea grant, and other environment
