About this award

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife received a $19,019,000 project grant award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under the Pacific Coast Salmon Recovery Pacific Salmon Treaty Program (CFDA 11.438) for the period of September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2026. The grant funding will support salmon habitat restoration efforts through two sub-awards.

The Eel River Improvement Group will receive funding to construct 54 large wood structures containing 172 pieces of wood along 9,350 feet of Willits Creek. This work will increase floodplain and side channel inundation, pool and flatwater shelter and depths, and velocity refugia for salmonids. Additionally, the Scott River Watershed Council will receive funding for private sector technical training and education projects, including workshops teaching private landowners about improving land and water management practices to protect and restore salmon streams. Funding will also support restoration technique workshops and conferences.
