The State of Maine was awarded a $1,641,330.00 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration under the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (CFDA 64.203) on September 17, 2024. The grant funds will support the expansion and improvement of Maine's veterans cemetery infrastructure and operations to enhance burial services for veterans and their eligible family members. This award is part of the VA's ongoing efforts to complement its national cemetery system by providing federal grants to state, territorial, and tribal governments for the establishment, expansion, and improvement of veterans' cemeteries. Maine's veterans services divisions will utilize the grant funding to execute construction, renovation, and operational enhancements to increase burial capacity and improve memorial services for the state's veteran population.
