The Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) was awarded a $500,000 Project Grant by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) under the Mental and Behavioral Health Education and Training Grants program (CFDA 93.732). The grant will fund the implementation of the Rural Georgia Behavioral Health Evidence-Based Services Training (BHEST) program, an initiative to develop a pipeline of behavioral health paraprofessionals trained to address the needs of rural children and adolescents in West Central Georgia. The program will provide Level 1 pre-service training and Level 2 apprenticeship training for Community Health Workers (CHWs) through didactic and experiential learning. Upon completion of the training, the CHWs will be placed in medically underserved areas and health professional shortage areas to serve as part of integrated care teams. The grant will allow MSM to train 15 Level 1 trainees and 10 Level 2 apprenticeship trainees annually over the 4-year award period from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2029.
