The Department of Housing and Urban Development Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development awarded Calcasieu Parish of Louisiana $453,673 under the Continuum of Care Program (CFDA 14.267) on January 1, 2026 to support permanent housing, transitional housing, supportive services, and homelessness prevention in the Lake Charles area. The award covers the period of performance from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026, with place of performance in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Continuum of Care Program funds eligible costs for five program components: permanent housing including permanent supportive housing for persons with disabilities and rapid rehousing; transitional housing; supportive services only; Homeless Management Information Systems; and in some cases, homelessness prevention. Allowable uses include planning activities, United Funding Agency costs for fiscal control and accounting, acquisition and rehabilitation of real property, and new construction. The program is designed to promote community-wide commitment to ending homelessness and to provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers, states, and local governments to quickly house homeless individuals and families while minimizing trauma and dislocation, promote access to mainstream programs, and optimize self-sufficiency.
