The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded a $192,780 Project Grant under the Cancer Research Manpower (CFDA 93.398) program to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for a 5-year research project titled "GLOBAL BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER CONTROL: IMPLEMENTING A BUNDLED SCREENING APPROACH IN A RESOURCE LIMITED SETTING". The goal of this grant is to optimize and evaluate the implementation of a bundled breast and cervical cancer screening program in Cameroon, in order to improve early detection and decrease cancer morbidity and mortality in sub-Saharan Africa. The project will use the RE-AIM implementation science framework to 1) assess the reach and effectiveness of the bundled screening program, 2) identify key implementation outcomes like acceptability and cost, and 3) engage stakeholders to develop a multi-level implementation strategy to disseminate the screening interventions across the public health system in Cameroon. This work will position the principal investigator as an independent, NIH-funded surgeon-scientist focused on enhancing global cancer control through innovative, evidence-based interventions.
