The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded a $396,246.39 Housing Counseling Training Program (CFDA 14.316) grant to the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) to provide housing counseling training activities. The purpose of the grant is to invest in the creation and maintenance of a professional and effective housing counseling workforce that can assist consumers with making informed housing choices. The grant will fund RCAC to deliver both basic housing counseling training and specialized training, including on topics such as housing counselor certification, rental housing counseling, mortgage delinquency/default counseling, pre-purchase counseling, and disaster preparation and recovery. The training will be provided through a mix of in-person and web-based sessions, and RCAC will also be awarded funds to administer a HUD Certified Housing Counselor Workforce Development Program in partnership with an institution of higher education. The expected outcomes include housing counselors gaining a better understanding of providing counseling on fair housing, fair lending, accessibility rights, landlord/tenant mitigation, purchasing housing, reverse mortgage certification, preventing or resolving mortgage defaults, and disaster preparation and recovery. The grant period runs from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.
