The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board $1,104,329 on September 30, 2026, under the Tribal Opioid Response program (CFDA 93.788) to strengthen substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery services across Northwest tribes through Phase 7 of the Tribal Opioid Response consortium. The recipient will work with three participating tribes—the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, and the Skokomish Indian Tribe—to increase access to culturally appropriate treatment and recovery activities, reduce unmet treatment needs, and lower substance use-related deaths. The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board will provide leadership, coordination, data management and analytic support, training, and technical assistance to the participating tribes. Activities target at least 5,105 tribal members annually through outreach, education, social marketing, and media messages, with direct SAMHSA Unified Performance Reporting Tool treatment and recovery services provided to 12 tribal members. Prevention, education, and treatment activities address opioid and stimulant use and misuse disorders. Performance occurs in Portland, Oregon. The award funds work through September 29, 2031.
