The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) awarded a $563,210 Project Grant under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) program to Simply Hope Family Outreach, Inc. (SHFO) in Burley, ID. The three-year award, effective from September 30, 2024 to September 29, 2027, will fund the "Recovery Connect: Uniting Communities for Positive Change" project. The project aims to address the increased substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring disorders (COD) in the rural, underserved population of Cassia and Minidoka counties in south-central Idaho. Key services to be provided include peer recovery support, family classes, screening and assessment, referrals to services, and DUI education for 215 participating adults. In addition, SHFO will conduct community outreach events to increase awareness, provide harm reduction training, and reduce the stigma around SUD/COD. The project targets underserved populations such as Hispanic/Latino residents, including undocumented agricultural workers, who face language and cultural barriers to accessing services.
