FUELING HOPE - ALONG THE SOUTHERNMOST TEXAS-MEXICO BORDER, THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY (RGV) IS HOME TO OVER 1.3 MILLION PEOPLE, WITH OVER 90% OF INDIVIDUALS IDENTIFYING AS HISPANIC/LATINO. THE FUELING HOPE PROJECT WILL EXPAND SUBSTANCE USE TREATMENT AND HIV-RELATED SERVICES FOR HISPANIC/LATINO AND OTHER MINORITY INDIVIDUALS IN THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY OF TEXAS WHO HAVE A HISTORY OF SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS AND ARE LIVING WITH OR AT RISK FOR BLOOD BORNE PATHOGENS. SPECIFICALLY, THE PROJECT FOCUSES ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE, TRAUMA-INFORMED, AND GENDER-SPECIFIC CONTINUUM OF CARE TO MEET THE TREATMENT NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS WHO USE OPIATES AND OTHER SUBSTANCES, AND ARE AT HIGH RISK FOR CONTRACTING HIV AND HEPATITIS C. THE PROJECT'S OVERARCHING GOALS ARE TO: IDENTIFY, ENGAGE, AND SUPPORT MINORITY ADULTS WITH SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS IN ACCESSING THE RECOVERY AND SUPPORT SERVICES NEEDED TO SUCCESSFULLY TRANSITION TO HEALTH AND WELLNESS; AND TO SOLIDIFY AND AUGMENT THE SYSTEM OF CARE FOR ADULTS IN NEED OF SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER TREATMENT AND RECOVERY SUPPORT SERVICES DURING THESE CHALLENGING TRANSITIONS THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES. A CONTINUUM OF CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE, TRAUMA-INFORMED MENTAL HEALTH AND CO-OCCURRING TREATMENT AND RECOVERY SUPPORT SERVICES WILL BE INTEGRATED WITH THE FULL COMPLEMENT OF HIV/HCV PREVENTION AND CARE SERVICES. TO THIS END, 450 INDIVIDUALS WILL BE ENGAGED DURING THE FIVE-YEAR PROJECT, FIFTY INDIVIDUALS DURING YEAR ONE AND ONE HUNDRED DURING EACH SUBSEQUENT YEAR.
