Description
SACADA tree project - the SAN antonio council on alcohol and drug awareness (SACADA), in partnership with family service association and estrada achievement center, will expand substance use disorders services thru SACADA tree project in bexar county, texas - texas health and human services region 8. Findings from the 2018 texas school survey of drug and alcohol use (TSS), which is the state's primary means to measure substance use behavior and related risk factors in young people, results show current substance use is more prevalent among students in region 8 than other regions with large metropolitan areas and the state overall. In response, the SACADA tree project will provide outpatient treatment, evidence-based prevention education, and wraparound services to no less than 450 unduplicated youth and their families; 50 youth in year one, and 100 youth in each subsequent year. The primary target population is adolescent youth of SAN antonio in bexar county in need of substance abuse intervention, treatment, and recovery support wraparound services. The secondary population is the families of youth enrolled for wraparound services. As a direct result of this project, 70% of students who complete the outpatient SUD intervention, treatment, and wraparound services will report abstinence from their substance (S) of concern, as measured by 30, 90, and 180-day follow-up interviews. Additionally, SACADA tree project will establish a peer recovery support group as an estrada achievement center campus-recognized, STUDENT6 led club. Our program is unique in that 1) outpatient treatment and recovery support services will be provided within the school; 2) wraparound services and family case management enhance the overall treatment experience; 3) the population is overwhelmingly hispanic and of lower socioeconomic status, and 4) we will reduce stigma in our student population through the integration of screening brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) campus-wide. Our program will have the same seamless integration of recovery services as well as the supportive peer groups that recovery high schools offer without removing students from their home school environment and the added component of family services to support the youth's recovery journey.
