The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration awarded the City of Alexandria, Virginia $250,000 on September 30, 2026, under the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.492) to prevent alcohol, marijuana, and vaping use among youth in Alexandria through the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria. The City will deliver evidence-based prevention programming to at least 3,000 Alexandria youth and reach at least 8,000 adults with prevention messaging over the five-year performance period ending September 29, 2031. The project will provide fidelity-monitored direct services to at least 600 middle school and 300 high school students completing Too Good for Drugs — Maximizing Life programming, and at least 2,100 elementary students completing Too Good out-of-school time programming. A secondary population of at least 8,000 parents, caregivers, and other adults will receive prevention messaging to strengthen protective factors.
