The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) awarded Fort Bend Regional Council On Substance Abuse, Inc. $600,000 under the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Projects of Regional and National Significance program (CFDA 93.492) on September 30, 2026. Fort Bend Regional Council will deliver prevention capacity-building services across the southwest Harris County catchment area to reduce underage alcohol and marijuana use among youth and young adults in grades 7–12 and reduce opioid misuse and overdose among the adult population. The five-year project runs through September 29, 2031, with performance in Stafford, Texas. The recipient will hire and train a Prevention Program Specialist dedicated to the catchment and establish formal partnerships with five community sector organizations. By September 2027, at least four Fort Bend Regional Council prevention staff and six community sector partners will attend national or state prevention training. By April 2027, the recipient will partner with the Prevention and Treatment Technology Transfer Center (PTTC) to develop a youth-serving organization prevention competency survey assessing prevention integration across twelve sectors. The recipient will administer this baseline survey to a minimum of five organizations by year-end 2026, repeated in years three and five. Beginning in year two and annually thereafter, the recipient will deliver sector-specific prevention training and technical assistance to three organizations. By September 2029, the recipient aims to increase perceived competency scores among youth-serving organization partners by 5 percent over the year-one baseline.
