Description

This project is a multi-strategic initiative, based on the strategic prevention framework, designed to prevent underage drinking among youth and young adults, 11 - 20 years old. Local community data reflect high rates of underage drinking for this population, low perceptions of harm, as well as environmental factors that support underage drinking. In an effort to address local conditions that contribute to underage drinking, the healthy guilford coalition proposes to implement the following strategies (not limited to): social norms and marketing campaigns; direct prevention services to youth and families; capacity building strategies to increase collaboration across governmental, youth provider and educational systems; collaboration with law enforcement to increase alcohol outlet compliance checks, advocacy for local policies that restrict alcohol access at public and entertainment events. The overall goal of healthy guilford coalition is to prevent medication and other substance misuse, overdose, and deaths among youth, through community collaboration, education, and safety.
