The family life skills workshops and the promotores DE salud are projects proposed to be funded under the leadership of the hamblen county substance abuse coalition, INC. Through the sober truth of preventing underage drinking, stop act funding. These projects will target implementations that focus on the prevention and reduction of alcohol use and abuse among the adult and youth population ages 12- 20 within the hamblen county tennessee region. A consortium consisting of, but not limited to, the hamblen county substance abuse coalition, INC., true purpose ministries (treatment & recovery) and area hispanic and anglo churches in the hamblen county area will be integral pieces of our scope of services looking to better the home environment creating a home with less risk of alcohol and substance use by their children. A minimum of 300 persons will be impacted through this project in year one of the grant. The anticipated number of persons served during the entire project period should be 1,500 to 2,000 people. Additional numbers will be realized as we move this project into other sectors of the community. This project will initially be utilized within the hispanic/latino populations but we plan to include the anglo populations very early into the project which will further increase the capacity of the coalition and our community to tremendously grow the numbers of families that will be reached through this awesome program. The stop act funding will further enable the coalition to teach the parents and/or guardians of families to greatly reduce the risks of their children experimenting with alcohol and drugs as the "family life skills" program will work in a collaborative, complimentary manner with the "youth building skills", a 12 week curriculum being utilized for youth that has been extremely successful over the past 6 years.
