Description
The goal is to increase the coalition's capacity to implement underage drinking strategies that will change community norms and ultimately reduce the number of youth reporting alcohol use on the biennial DFC student surveys. The need focuses on changing the attitudes and beliefs of adults who, on two separate surveys, overwhelmingly do not condone underage drinking. Objectives include increasing the number of parents active in the coalition, assuring 100% of retailers and servers receive responsible beverage sales/service training, and decreasing the number of adults who say they would allow underage drinking. Strategies include an information campaign, listening sessions and focus groups, quarterly town hall events, creating a local rbss training program, social media (including samhsa's talk. They hear you), supporting increase in social host fines, and engaging more youth in the youth coalition. By the end of the project period the coalition expects to have served at least 100 teachers, administrators, and support staff at oologah-talala public schools; 800 adults/parents (21 and older); and 1,000 public school students. Annually, IT is expected that we can reach all school staff, three-fourths of the students in grades 4-12, and 200 (unduplicated) parents. The stop act objectives are aligned with the coalition's need to provide specialized information, coordinate an adult peer-pressure campaign, ensure all retailers and servers are licensed/trained, and increase the coalition's capacity to implement underage drinking strategies that can change the social norm in the oologah-talala school district.
