The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) has been awarded a $735,000 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance (CFDA 93.243) grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The grant will fund the Oregon Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Program, which aims to implement suicide prevention and early intervention strategies and build capacity for youth up to age 24 in counties with youth suicide rates higher than the national average. Key activities include convening a state-level GLS team, increasing capacity in initial program counties, expanding the program to additional counties, providing evidence-based suicide prevention and intervention trainings to over 10,000 youth-serving professionals, and establishing youth suicide prevention coalitions. The grant will be implemented over a 5-year period from September 2024 to September 2029.
