Description
North dakota federation of families for children's mental health statewide family network program - north dakota federation of families for children's mental health (NDFFCMH) statewide family network program will serve ND children with serious emotional disturbance (SED) through the age of 26 and their families with evidence-based family peer support services to assist them accessing the mental health system of care and improve their life outcomes. To do this NDFFCMH will: 1) enhance family/caregiver participation, voice, leadership, and empowerment through partnerships and collaborations with allied stakeholders to effect systems change and improve the quality of mental health services in north dakota; 2) establish a statewide collaborative effort with multiple systems to engage, train, educate and support parents with children who have emotional, behavioral, or mental disorders; 3) enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities related to mental health services for family/caregiver peer support providers and mental health related workforce across the state; 4) increase family involvement and leadership in workforce and program development to enhance access and availability of evidence-based and promising practices that are holistic, family/caregiver-driven, and trauma informed. Families served in the north dakota federation of families for children's mental health (NDFFCMH) statewide family network program will receive parent peer support, where they will be matched with a parent coordinator with lived experience raising a child with SED to help them gain access to needed services and supports in the ND mental health system of care and other health care systems. Families will develop their leadership skills through targeted training and educational events and will be encouraged to join systems change efforts underway in various policy groups, including multiple hsri implementation plan workgroups that are tasked with solving the existing north dakota mental health system crisis. NDFFCMH will assist in training service providers by providing the parent perspective on training topics. NDFFCMH and families will also work to help solve the critical need for peer support services in north dakota by working with the state to create a state certified family peer support and youth peer support training program and will train families and caregivers to be parent peer support providers across the state.
