Description
Funds will provide in-hand and on-demand resources while helping to identify students who are in immediate need of life-saving services. Through increased education provided to students, faculty, and staff, the LEE college community will be better equipped to identify and handle mental health crises. 6,607 students are currently enrolled and over 12,000 associate degrees and certificates have been issued over the last five years. Students come from a myriad of socio and economic backgrounds with african-american (14%), hispanic (47%), and caucasian/white (32%). In addition, 2% of students are ESL, 5% are single parents, 2% are veterans, 34% are economically disadvantaged and 15% are first-generation college. Through the implementation of timely MD and concerncenter along with the expansion of maxient, SPP will provide unique and advanced clinical characteristics that will give students many avenues to both seek and receive help. "IT is not uncommon for college students to struggle at some point during their academic career. Some concerns are minor and easily overcome, while others can have significant effects on a student's mental health and retention. Although they are often willing to seek the help they need, students may not always know where to turn." with concerncenter, "students simply identify their concern [on the APP] and are provided with a prioritized list of helpful resources selected by college personnel to help solve the issue." timely MD dovetails with 24/7/365 clinical care through telehealth. Resources can be people, offices, or off-campus support with concerncenter through a network of "high-quality, student-focused providers available anytime, anywhere." students will have access to mental health and substance use disorder screenings to identify associated risks through campus engagement. In addition, 100% of students with an identified suicide risk will receive a safety plan that includes strategies to reduce lethal means. Maxient is software for managing behavior records. Having centralized reporting and record-keeping helps LEE college connect the dots and prevent students from falling through the cracks. The mission is to balance the needs of the individual, the community, and to define the threat assessment as well as early intervention efforts. A dedicated website with information on participation, how to refer, examples of behaviors to report, frequently asked questions, and a link to campus, community resources, and a dedicated email is accessible to anyone. In addition to the mission, the first objective will be to provide training in order to better recognize and support students with mental health needs or are in crisis. This includes addressing the stigma associated with seeking help. The second objective will increase services including assessments, additional mental health services, and the use of technology. Finally, the third objective will be to identify and implement a data management system that will better track services and provide a centralized reporting system. The objectives of the project have measurable results as noted in the application and IT is expected to serve 70 annually and 210 throughout the life of the grant.
