THE CHILDREN'S CENTER - FY2021 - FY2026 TRAUMA PROGRAM FOR YOUNG CHILDREN - THE CHILDREN'S CENTER'S (TCC) TRAUMA PROGRAM FOR YOUNG CHILDREN BUILDS ON OUR FOUNDATION AS AN AFFILIATE OF THE NCTSN AND PROVIDER OF EVIDENCE-BASED TRAUMA TREATMENT AS WE REDUCE THE IMPACT OF TRAUMA FOR CHILDREN BIRTH TO 6 YEARS THROUGHOUT UTAH. THE PROJECT WILL CREATE A TRAUMA-INFORMED SYSTEM OF CARE COMPRISED OF CHILD-SERVING AGENCIES TO ENHANCE SCREENING, REFERRALS, AND TREATMENT OF YOUNG CHILDREN WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED TRAUMA. FIRST, TCC WILL INCREASE KNOWLEDGE RELATED TO TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE PRACTICES IN CROSS-SECTOR CHILD-SERVING AGENCIES THROUGHOUT UTAH BY PROVIDING TRAINING IN CHILD-ADULT RELATIONSHIP ENHANCEMENT (CARE), AN NCTSN SUPPORTED TRAINING. PROVIDING CARE TRAINING TO CROSS-SECTOR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROVIDERS WILL ESTABLISH A TRAUMA-INFORMED NETWORK IN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT UTAH THAT WILL SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING TRAUMA SCREENING AND REFERRALS FOR TREATMENT. CARE TRAINING WILL ALSO FACILITATE TRAUMA AWARENESS IN CHILD-SERVING PROFESSIONS AND INCREASE PROVIDERS' SKILL IN SUPPORTING FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN EXPOSED TO TRAUMA. SECOND, TCC WILL INCREASE ACCESS TO ITS EVIDENCE-BASED TRAUMA TREATMENT FOR CHILDREN BIRTH TO 6 YEARS. PROJECT FUNDING WILL EXPAND TCC'S CATCHMENT THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF UTAH AND INCREASE ACCESS TO ITS CONTINUUM OF TRAUMA-INFORMED SERVICES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON UNDERSERVED AREAS, INCLUDING RURAL POPULATIONS. WHILE SOME AREAS OF THE STATE ARE IMPLEMENTING EVIDENCE-BASED TRAUMA TREATMENTS, FEW PROVIDERS IN UTAH ARE UTILIZING TREATMENTS APPROPRIATE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. CHILDREN WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM WILL REFLECT THE DIVERSITY WITHIN THE STATE AND WILL HAVE SUFFERED A RANGE OF TRAUMAS, INCLUDING ABUSE OR NEGLECT, WITNESSING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, AND TRAUMATIC GRIEF. IN ORDER TO MEET THE DIVERSE NEEDS AND EXPERIENCES OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, WE WILL OFFER FOUR NCTSN SUPPORTED EVIDENCE-BASED TRAUMA TREATMENTS: CHILD-PARENT PSYCHOTHERAPY; ATTACHMENT AND BIOBEHAVIORAL CATCH-UP; ATTACHMENT, SELF-REGULATION, AND COMPETENCE; AND TRAUMA-FOCUSED COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY. YEARS 1 AND 5 WILL SERVE 90 CHILDREN, AND YEARS 2, 3 AND 4 WE WILL SERVE 125 CHILDREN FOR A TOTAL OF 555 CHILDREN. THIRD, THE PROJECT WILL INCREASE CAPACITY FOR AGENCIES THROUGHOUT UTAH SERVING CHILDREN BIRTH TO 6 YEARS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO TRAUMA-INFORMED TREATMENT WITHIN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES. PROVIDERS IN UTAH VARY WIDELY IN THEIR KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND RESOURCES RELATED TO TRAUMA-INFORMED INFANT/EARLY CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH. TCC WILL PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO CROSS-SECTOR CHILD-SERVING AGENCIES IDENTIFIED IN THIS GRANT (I.E., HEAD START, EARLY INTERVENTION, CHILD CARE, HEALTHCARE, AND OTHERS) TO DEVELOP PROCESSES FOR REFERRING CHILDREN FOR TRAUMA TREATMENT. TCC WILL ALSO FACILITATE CROSS-SECTOR COLLABORATION AMONG EARLY CHILDHOOD PROVIDERS THROUGH TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE COORDINATION. TCC WILL PROVIDE TRAUMA-FOCUSED CONSULTATION TO MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS THROUGHOUT UTAH TO INCREASE THEIR CAPACITY TO PROVIDE TRAUMA-INFORMED TREATMENT TO CHILDREN BIRTH TO 6 YEARS. IN THIS MULTI-YEAR PROJECT, TCC WILL UTILIZE AN ADAPTABLE APPROACH TO MEET THE DIVERSE NEEDS OF CHILD-SERVING AGENCIES IN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT UTAH.
