MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING GRANT (MHAT) - THE EAST BAY REGIONAL COALITION WILL TRAIN THE COMMUNITY IN MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND CRISIS DE-ESCALATION WITH A GOAL OF CONNECTING MORE PEOPLE TO NEEDED RESOURCES. THE PROJECT WILL SERVE THE COMMUNITIES OF EAST PROVIDENCE, BARRINGTON, WARREN, AND BRISTOL, RI AND TARGET POPULATIONS IN GREATEST NEED OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES INCLUDING SENIOR CITIZENS, VETERANS, CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS, PORTUGUESE AND OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS BY TRAINING STAFF, CAREGIVERS, AND POLICIES. LOCAL TRAINERS WILL BE CERTIFIED TO DELIVER EVIDENCE-BASED MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING PROGRAMS TO OVER 700 INDIVIDUALS PER YEAR RESULTING IN 3265 TRAINED INDIVIDUALS OVER THE COURSE OF THE ENTIRE GRANT. FURTHER GOALS INCLUDE NORMALIZING MENTAL HEALTH BY IMPLEMENTING TRAINING TO DESTIGMATIZE LANGUAGE AND A MEDIA CAMPAIGN TO ADDRESS STIGMATIZATION AND INCREASE AWARENESS OF MENTAL ILLNESS AND THE PROVIDED TRAININGS. AN ADDITIONAL GOAL IS TO ASSESS ATTITUDES TOWARDS MENTAL HEALTH IN THE PORTUGUESE COMMUNITY TO ENABLE BETTER UPTAKE OF OFFERED TRAININGS AND CONNECT MORE OF THIS POPULATION TO SERVICES NEEDED.
