SOUTHERN WAYNE COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING PROJECT - THE THREE DISTRICTS OF THE SOUTHERN WAYNE COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING PROGRAM WILL TRAIN THE TRAINERS OF SCHOOL STAFF (TEACHERS, BUS DRIVERS, CAFETERIA WORKERS, AIDES, ETC.) AND COMMUNITY AGENCY STAFF WHO WORK WITH AT-RISK YOUTH IN THERAPEUTIC CRISIS INTERVENTION (TCI) AND YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID (YMHFA). WE WILL ALSO PARTNER WITH THE WAYNE COUNTY VETERAN SERVICE AGENCY TO ENSURE OUR PROGRAMS' IMPACT ON VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES. IN ADDITION, WE PARTNER WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND AN EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM TO CREATE A CULTURE OF TRAUMA INFORMED PRACTICES WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY. THE TRAINING BENEFITS YOUNG PEOPLE IN THREE HIGH-NEEDS RURAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITH AN ADDED FOCUS ON STUDENTS OF COLOR, STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES AND STUDENTS FROM LOWER SOCIOECONOMIC HOMES. THE TWO INTERVENTIONS WE WILL EMPLOY ARE TCI AND YMHFA, BOTH EVIDENCED BASED PROGRAMS THAT TEACH ADULTS HOW TO IDENTIFY STUDENTS IN CRISIS AND STRATEGIES TO USE TO HELP DE-ESCALATE, INTERVENE AND REFER THE STUDENT TO MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES. WE PARTNER WITH WAYNE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NETWORK, WHO DELIVERS MENTAL HEATH SERVICES CONDUCTED BY LICENSED PSYCHOLOGISTS AND SOCIAL WORKERS. ACCESSIBILITY TO MENTAL HEALTH CARE WILL BE ADDRESSED DIRECTLY BY IMPROVEMENT IN THE NUMBER OF SCREENINGS AND THE SELF-REPORTED WILLINGNESS OF YOUNG PEOPLE TO SEEK HELP. DURING THIS PROJECT, WE TRAIN 16 REGIONAL TURNKEY TRAINERS IN TCI AND 16 REGIONAL TURNKEY TRAINERS IN YMHFA. ALSO, BY THE END OF THE FIFTH YEAR, 800 YMHFA AIDERS (TEACHERS, AIDES, ADMINISTRATORS, BUS DRIVERS, CAFETERIA WORKERS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, COMMUNITY PARTNER STAFF) WILL BE TRAINED IN YMHFA. 296 STAFF WILL BE TRAINED IN TCIS. OBJECTIVE 1-1: BY 2026, TRAIN 32 MENTAL HEALTH STAFF AS TRAINERS IN MENTAL HEALTH-BASED SUPPORT PROGRAMS. OBJECTIVE 1-2: BY 2026, 740 INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF WILL BE TRAINED AS IMPLEMENTERS IN YMHFA OR TCIS. OBJECTIVE 1-3: BY 2026, 360 COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL BE TRAINED AS IMPLEMENTERS IN YMHFA. OBJECTIVE 1-4: BY 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR, THE NUMBER OF REFERRALS FOR MENTAL HEALTH CARE WILL INCREASE TO 2400. GOAL 2: INCREASE THE CAPACITY OF PARTICIPATING SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO PARTNER WITH COMMUNITY AGENCIES TO REFER AND SUPPORT STUDENTS EXPERIENCING MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS. OBJECTIVE 2-1: THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS AGED 14-18 SCREENED ANNUALLY FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONCERNS WILL INCREASE FROM BASELINE BY 50% BY THE END OF THE 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR. OBJECTIVE 2-2: THE NUMBER OF SCHOOL-AGED YOUTH SERVED ANNUALLY BY WAYNE COUNTY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WILL INCREASE FROM BASELINE BY 35% BY THE END OF THE 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR. .
