Description
Rebuilding support for families - massachusetts' family-run organization, parent/professional advocacy league (PPAL) will serve families with children with significant mental health needs throughout the commonwealth. The goals of this project, rebuilding support for families, are to assess the urgent and emerging needs of families, which have both changed and grown more acute since covid, and design 3 workshops which target those needs. Families with children with mental health needs across the state have been profoundly impacted by covid-19, its disruption of services and existing supports. Workshop topics will include rebuilding supports for the child you have now, grief and families, and how to tackle difficult topics. One of the goals of the project is to work with many of the 407 special education parent advisory councils to offer workshops and reach families. In addition, PPAL's multicultural outreach team will make linkages to families from diverse communities to connect them with PPAL services and a range of workshops, including the new ones developed under this project. Further, we will continue to offer monthly trainings to those in family support roles, and host topical webinars as new policies locally and across the state are instituted. Throughout this project, we will educate parents and caregivers of children and youth of all demographic groups each year, connect them to services and ensure their experiences and concerns are heard by decision makers. PPAL expects to survey 100 families each year and deliver workshops to 400 families each year. PPAL's partnerships with key state agencies and coalitions will help ensure the success of this project.
