The Special Education - Special Olympics Education Programs (CFDA 84.380) federal grant award provides $36,000,000.00 to support the expansion of Special Olympics and the design and implementation of education programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The primary recipient is Special Olympics Inc., which receives the project grant to fund nationwide programming including the Unified Champion Schools program, Special Olympics events, and various initiatives to promote social inclusion and provide sports and educational opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Through this award, Special Olympics Inc. distributes sub-grants to over 50 state and local Special Olympics chapters across the United States to implement the Unified Champion Schools program. This program partners students with and without intellectual disabilities on sports teams and in leadership roles to facilitate inclusion in school environments. The sub-awardees use the funding to provide unified sports, inclusive youth leadership initiatives, and whole school engagement activities that empower individuals with intellectual disabilities through sports, education, and community integration.
