The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) has been awarded a $43,248,258.66 Project Grant from the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council Comprehensive Plan Component Program (CFDA 87.051) for the Coastal Alabama Regional Water Quality Program. This multi-year program, with an ultimate completion date of December 31, 2028, will support the restoration and protection of natural resources, ecosystems, fisheries, marine and wildlife habitats, beaches, and coastal wetlands in coastal Alabama.
The program will partner with coastal cities, municipalities, and utility associations to implement water quality improvement projects, including engineering, design, permitting, and construction of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and wastewater system upgrades. Key sub-awards support sewer infrastructure improvements in Bayou La Batre, Three Mile Creek, Grand Bay, Loxley, Orange Beach, Dauphin Island, and Fairhope. Additionally, the University of South Alabama will conduct baseline water quality and sediment monitoring to support the program's restoration goals across the coastal region.
