Description

Activities
Task 1: compile scholte (sediment-water interface) wave dispersion curves from previous studies utilizing the considered DAS datasets. Using a uniform bayesian framework, we will invert these dispersion measurements to constrain ssvs, and aggregate these measurements into a common database with tabulated uncertainties. The recipient will test different model parameterizations. Task 2: first, the recipient will qualitatively compare ssvs between datasets and between regions to identify geologic or geomorphic factors that might be useful proxies. Then, apply bayesian multiple regression to derive quantitative proxy relationships which can be used to estimate ssvs at sites where no in-situ measurements are available. Task 3: to test the uncertainty and generalizability of the proxy relationships from task 2, the recipient will perform cross-validation among DAS datasets and regions. Then we will compare predicted ssvs with scholte wave admittance measured at ocean-bottom seismometer sites from the alaska amphibious community seismic experiment (aacse) and cascadia initiative (CI). Task 4: given hundreds of regional and local earthquakes recorded at the same aacse and CI sites, the recipient will then revisit the role of ssvs in modulating earthquake ground motions in the offshore domain by comparing observed site amplification to physics-based modeling using proxy-derived shear-wave velocity profiles.deliverables and expected outcomes: the recipient will produce and make publicly available: (1) a database of DAS-derived scholte wave dispersion curves, (2) a database of offshore VS profiles, (3) statistical models for regional and general proxy-based VS prediction with uncertainties, (4) all code to reproduce (1)-(3).intended beneficiary: the university of washingtonsubrecipient activities: n a
