Description
- Activities
- There are four objectives proposed for this project:1. Data and model setup. Data collection, screening, processing, and setting up models to conduct 1D site response analyses. The focus is on seismic stations in california.2. Site response analyses. One-dimensional site response analyses will be conducted following the soil-over-rock and VS profile correction approaches, which are the industry standard and the desired improved practice.3. Models for the site response model error. The model error at the seismic stations is quantified, and relations are developed to estimate IT at uninstrumented sites.4. Report preparation. A detailed summary of the data and methods will be included for reproducibility. The results and findings will be discussed, and recommendations for potential implementation by the USGS or practicing engineers will be provided.deliverables and outcomes: the following deliverables will be obtained: site response model errors estimated at seismic stations in california. Relations (i.e., empirical models) for the site response model error. Guidelines for implementing non-ergodic ground motion models that incorporate the site response model epistemic uncertainty on the USGS earthquake hazard toolbox. The data collected and results from numerical simulations will be archived on the publicly accessible data repository designsafe-CI, and codes made available on the PIS github account.
- Intended beneficiaries
- The proposed project will benefit practicing engineers who are already using or willing to transition into non-ergodic ground motion models. The guidelines provided for implementation, and potentialaddition to USGS earthquake hazard toolbox can lead to widespread impact. The results obtained from this project will also benefit researchers actively working on or using 1D site response analyses as the site response model error is rarely addressed or acknowledged. The data collected, and results from numerical simulations made publicly available will benefit other researchers working on similar topics.subrecipients: n a
