Description
- Activities
- The recipient will perform residual analyses using the NGA-WEST2 database (ancheta ET AL., 2013) and using the suite of earthquake simulations collected in bayless ET AL. (2020). Residuals will be calculated from published models for significant duration, cumulative absolute velocity, and arias intensity. These residuals will be evaluated with respect to rupture directivity parameters (e.g., bayless ET AL., 2020 somerville ET AL., 1997 spudich ET AL., 2013) to identify rupture directivity effects that are not captured in the ground motion models. Based on this analysis, the recipient will develop refinements to the near-fault predictions of the published models. Finally, we will systematically test the updated models and will compare with other previously published models to illustrate the impact of incorporating rupture directivity effects on the predictions. The recipient will document the process in a technical report and will publish in a peer-reviewed journal.deliverables and expected outcomes: the products that this project will generate are:an adjustment to the afshari and stewart (2016) significant duration model (median and standard deviation) for rupture directivity effects.an adjustment to the campbell and bozorgnia (2019) cumulative absolute velocity and arias intensity models (median and standard deviation) for rupture directivity effects.computer codes for implementation.publication of the models in a peer-reviewed journal.
- Intended beneficiaries
- These products will be beneficial to many hazard analysts and engineers, including those at the USGS, and will improve our characterization of near-source significant duration, cumulative absolute velocity, and arias intensity.
