The Department of Housing and Urban Development's Public and Indian Housing Office awarded the Hawaii Public Housing Authority $115,613 under the Family Self-Sufficiency Program (CFDA 14.896) on January 1, 2026.
The award funds salary and fringe benefits for FSS coordinators who implement employment and self-sufficiency services for residents of public housing, Housing Choice Vouchers, and project-based rental assistance properties. FSS coordinators enroll and maintain families in the program, prepare individual training and services plans with participating families, and build partnerships with employers and service providers in the community. The Hawaii Public Housing Authority must hire or retain the number of full-time equivalent FSS coordinator positions for which it receives funding and serve the minimum number of participating families required by the grant, beginning with at least 25 families for the first coordinator position, increasing by 50 families for each additional funded position.
Performance of work occurs in Honolulu, Hawaii, with a period of performance from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026. Over the longer-term 5–7 year participation period, FSS participants are expected to become employed or improve their employment and wages while meeting other individual goals.
