About this award
The Department of Game & Fish New Mexico (NMDGF) received a $103,500 federal Project Grant award on January 1, 2025 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Fish and Aquatic Conservation - Aquatic Invasive Species program (CFDA 15.608). This grant will allow NMDGF to continue addressing the objectives of the New Mexico Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan, focusing on: (1) early detection of and rapid response for dreissenid mussels (zebra and quagga mussels), and (2) aquatic nuisance species public education and outreach. The grant will support NMDGF's efforts to protect New Mexico's surface waters and natural resources from the threat of aquatic invasive species.
Additionally, NMDGF awarded a $10,000 sub-grant to Pisces Molecular LLC, a for-profit limited liability company, to conduct genetic analysis on tissue samples to determine the genetic purity of Rio Grande cutthroat trout. This sub-grant, awarded on July 1, 2024, will contribute to NMDGF's broader initiatives to manage and conserve aquatic species in New Mexico.
Description
