NEW ZEALAND MUDSNAILS (NZMS) WERE FIRST DISCOVERED IN LAKE TAHOE IN SEPTEMBER 2023. THIS PROJECT PROPOSES TO IMPLEMENT FOLLOW UP MONITORING ACTIONS THAT WERE IMPLEMENTED AS PART OF THE RAPID RESPONSE FOLLOWING THE LAKE TAHOE RAPID RESPONSE PLAN. THE RAPID RESPONSE PLAN IS PART OF THE FEDERALLY APPROVED LAKE TAHOE AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES (AIS) MANAGEMENT PLAN. ACTIVITIES TO BE IMPLEMENTED TO REFINE THE INFESTATION DELINEATION INCLUDE REPEATING A GRID SURVEY AND EDNA MONITORING. THE GRID SURVEY CONSISTS OF APPROXIMATELY 350 POINTS WITHIN A TEN MILE LINEAR STRETCH FROM EAGLE POINT NEAR EMERALD BAY TO THE EAST NEAR THE USFS PROPERTY NEVADA BEACH. THIS GRID ENCOMPASSES MORE THAN 2000 ACRES. THE CURRENTLY KNOWN INFESTATION ENCOMPASSES LESS THEN HALF OF THAT AREA. EDNA SAMPLING WOULD BE CONDUCTED TO MONITOR THE UPPER TRUCKEE RIVER FROM THE MOUTH TO UPSTREAM NEAR MEYERS CA APPROXIMATELY 2.4 KM IN DISTANCE. THIS STRETCH WOULD INCLUDE THE HIGH USE AREAS BY THE PUBLIC ALONG WITH PRIORITY LOCATIONS THAT CONNECT TO THE UPPER TRUCKEE RIVER OR ARE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO TROUT CREEK AND MARSH. ALSO SAWMILL POND AND LAKE BARON WHERE POTENTIAL POINTS OF ENTRY OF NZMS COULD EXIST.
