MONTANA S LIVESTOCK LOSS BOARD HAS BEEN PROVIDING LIVESTOCK LOSS COMPENSATION DUE TO WOLVES SINCE IT S CREATION IN 2007.THIS IS A STATE PROGRAM PRIMARILY FUNDED THROUGH STATE TAX DOLLARS. FUNDING FOR LIVESTOCK LOSS PREVENTION HAS PRIMARILY CAME FROM FEDERALLY FUNDED GRANTS FOR MORE THAN A DECADE. THE BOARD ISSUES LOSS PREVENTION GRANTS TO INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS WHICH HAS STABILIZED LIVESTOCK LOSS. FUNDED PROJECTS INCLUDE LIVESTOCK CARCASS COMPOSTING, RANGE RIDERS, GUARD DOGS AND FLADRY. ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS HAS BEEN THE CARCASS PICKUP PROGRAM. BEGINNING WITH THE BLACKFOOT CHALLENGE, NUMEROUS OTHER SIMILAR PROJECTS HAVE BEGUN AROUND THE STATE. LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS HAVE READILY ACCEPTED THIS AS ONE OF BEST SOLUTIONS TO WOLF CAUSED LIVESTOCK LOSS PREVENTION.
