Description
The yreka fish and wildlife office is providing 5000 of funding to the siskiyou county office of education (scoe) to assist students from local elementary schools to attend the kidder creek outdoor school (kcos) in scott valley, california. The program gives students the opportunity to learn about geology, forest and riparian ecosystems, and social skills by participating in experiential activities and hands-on learning in an outdoor setting. Some of the program goals include promoting positive attitudes toward the outdoors, stimulating critical thinking, and facilitating intergroup respect and understanding. The kcos has developed into an integral component of many northern california and southern oregon school environment science programs. The school provides high quality curriculum and instruction and is an integral component of our schools environmental science programs.during the spring of 2023, we served 240 elementary students and hope to increase our enrollment next year.
